Ellijay, GA – April 15, 2025 – Residents across North Georgia experienced widespread power outages Tuesday morning, affecting both Amicalola EMC and Georgia Power customers. The outages, which began around 9:00 a.m., stretched from Ball Ground to Blue Ridge, leaving tens of thousands without electricity as utility crews worked to restore service.
Amicalola EMC confirmed on facebook that the initial cause of the outage was a downed transmission line near Carter’s Lake. Social media was flooded with reports of flickering lights, and sudden loss of electricity as the outages spread across multiple counties.
Amicalola EMC confirmed that crews were responding to multiple locations, prioritizing critical infrastructure and heavily affected areas. Georgia Power also acknowledged the outages, stating that power was being slowly restored but did not provide an estimated time for full recovery.
Local businesses and schools faced disruptions, with most closing early as a precaution. Traffic lights in several areas were reported to be out, prompting authorities to remind drivers to treat intersections as four-way stops.
As of 11:30, power has begun returning to some neighborhoods, but many residents remain in the dark. Officials urge customers to check utility websites or outage maps for updates.
